GoodFocus does not collect any data, on the Mac or on the iPhone. Your sessions, entries, and projects are kept on your devices and, when you're signed in to iCloud, in your own private iCloud storage, so your Mac and your iPhone show the same history. Your settings stay on the device where you set them.
We have no servers, no analytics, and no account system, so there is nothing for us to see, sell, or lose.
On the Mac
Everything is stored in a database in GoodFocus's own storage on your Mac. The Mac app sends no notifications.
On the iPhone
Everything is stored in the app's own storage on your iPhone. The only other thing that reads it is GoodFocus's own widgets and Live Activity, which show your current flow and today's totals on your Home Screen and Lock Screen. While a flow runs, its project name shows on the Lock Screen; you can turn the Live Activity off in the app's Settings.
Notifications are local: your iPhone schedules them itself, and nothing is sent to or from a server. GoodFocus asks for permission the first time you start a flow, never at launch, and works fully without it.
Sync between your devices
When your Mac and your iPhone are signed in to the same Apple Account, GoodFocus keeps your history in step through iCloud: your flows, rests, check-ins, and projects. Apple stores them in your account's private iCloud storage, which only your own devices can read. We can't see it, and it never passes through a server of ours. Your settings and the flow running right now are not synced; each device keeps its own.
Not signed in to iCloud, or iCloud turned off for GoodFocus? Then nothing leaves the device, and each one keeps its own history. To remove the iCloud copy, delete GoodFocus's data in your iCloud storage settings on any of your devices. Deleting the app removes what's on that device. Your device's own backups, such as iCloud Backup or Time Machine, can include GoodFocus's data the way they include any app's.
Project suggestions
Project suggestions are worked out on your device, from the projects you already have. What you type is never sent anywhere.
Beta testing
While GoodFocus is distributed through TestFlight, Apple collects crash logs and any feedback you choose to send, under Apple's privacy policy. That is Apple's collection, not ours, and it stops when the beta does.
